Dear UCI Undergraduate,
With fall quarter 2020 right around the corner, we want to ensure that you are prepared for remote instruction. If you haven’t done so already, make sure you activate your UCI Zoom license and download the Zoom application. This grants you access to Zoom lectures and allows your instructors to identify you for classes. Also, Zoom can be a useful tool to form study groups and meet with other students outside of class.
Get Started with Zoom
- To activate your UCI Zoom account and begin using Zoom, visit uci.zoom.us, select the sign in option and log in with your UCInetID and password.
- Then download the Zoom application on your laptop and/or mobile device (Note: when logging in via the Zoom app, choose the “SSO” option and enter “uci” as the company domain)
- For more information on using Zoom to access your courses, visit Learn Anywhere.
Zoombombing and other Disruptions
It is important to keep in mind that the Code of Student Conduct applies to all UCI students, even in the remote learning environment. The Code prohibits, among other things, Academic Dishonesty, Computer Misuse, Harassment, Disruption, Disorderly Behavior, and violations of Expectations of Privacy.
There is no tolerance for “Zoombombing” or other purposeful disruptions of the classroom environment. Consequences of improper Zoom behavior, which breaks the Code of Student Conduct, can be found on the Office of Academic Integrity and Student Conduct website.
Zoom Recording and Privacy
Most faculty will be recording their lectures for student use. Instructor&rsuo;s lectures, even when delivered in Zoom or recorded, are owned by the instructor and may only be used for academic purposes.
As a student, check the syllabus to confirm whether or not Zoom class sessions are being recorded. If you have concerns regarding recording, please reach out to the course instructor for information on alternative options. More information on privacy questions related to Zoom can be found on Zoom Privacy and Recording.
Thank you, and we look forward to kicking off this academic year with you!
