Dear Anteater Students,
Over the past few weeks you have received a number of communications from UCI to help facilitate the start of your undergraduate career this coming fall. One of these messages pertains to your housing contract offer. We know the choice of whether to live on campus may be a difficult one given the uncertain nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly with respect to restrictions involving health and travel. We want to offer you some additional information that may help you make decisions regarding your living arrangements for the 2020-2021 academic year.
- UCI is taking precautions to limit the spread of the COVID-19 in the residence halls based on guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
- While we are not able to offer incoming freshmen our traditional two-year on-campus housing guarantee, given our current planning and projections, we will very likely be able to provide on-campus housing for any student who would like to live on campus. In the event on-campus housing is not available, UCI can offer resources that will help you identify alternative off-campus housing options.
- We understand that there are many circumstances right now that make travel complicated for some of our new and continuing students. With this in mind, you may cancel your housing contract if government-imposed travel or visa restriction make it impossible for you to arrive on campus for fall quarter. In addition, you may submit an appeal to modify/cancel your housing contract anytime during the 2020-2021 academic year, due to circumstances/events beyond your control. More information about the contract cancellation process can be found at the Housing website . For ACC lease holders, UCI is working diligently to resolve this issue and will have more information to share with students by Friday, July 10.
- We know there are many factors to weigh as you make your fall plans. To give you more time to plan, we are modifying our contract cancellation timeline. You may submit your contract now if you choose and cancel it any time up to September 1, 2020, with no penalty and a full refund of your application fee.
We also wish to remind students and families that UCI is fully prepared to adapt instruction to satisfy the needs for freshmen for all intended majors for the entire 2020-21 academic year. To further support you and your families in making this important decision in your college experience, we are extending the housing contract submission deadline to Wednesday, July 15, 2020. Please contact Housing with your questions at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 949-824-6811.
